Unfortunately, my patient has 20/200 vision from an Toxoplasmosis infection. Toxoplasmosis is the most common cause of infectious retinochoroiditis. In addition to contaminated food, water source contamination is increasingly recognized as a source of infection. The disease can also be acquired by blood transfusions, organ transplant, or accidentally in laboratory workers.
Here’s how you can get infected! Be careful not to:
- Come into contact with cat feces that carry the parasite.
- Eat contaminated food, such as lamb, pork, and venison.
- Use contaminated knives, cutting boards or other utensils.
- Eat unwashed fruits and vegetables.
