Punctal plugs are used to treat dry eye. They are biocompatible devices that can be inserted into tear ducts to block drainage. This increases the eye’s tear film and surface moisture to help relieve certain forms of dry eye. READ MORE HERE:
There are 2 reasons I don’t use punctal plugs for dry eye treatment: 1. The principle of homeostasis is well-documented for plugs. If you “plug” the drainage system, your eye simply stops producing tears. 2. The plugs get infected, and are difficult to remove! Check out this photo!
