When your eye bleeds

Wet macular degeneration causes blurred vision or a blind spot in your visual field.  It is caused by abnormal blood vessels that leak fluid or blood into the macula, which is responsible for central vision.

Wet macular degeneration is one of two types of age-related macular degeneration. The other type — dry macular degeneration — is more common and less severe. The wet type always begins as the dry type.

Early detection and treatment of wet macular degeneration may help reduce vision loss and, in some instances, recover vision.   Treatments can include laser and anti-VEGF therapy.

Anti-VEGF drugs inhibit the formation of new blood vessels behind the retina and helps with blood vessel leakage.  An injection in the eye can be uncomfortable, however, it is usually not painful because the eye has been anesthetized. The procedure takes about fifteen minutes.
