As of January 1, 2020, the Los Alamos National Laboratory will no longer offer Vision Service Plan (VSP) to their employees. Instead, Davis Vision will be the vision insurance for LANL employees. Although the benefits are comparable, we have noticed significant changes in warranties, products, and contact lenses.
- With VSP, anti-reflective coatings had a 2 year scratch warranty. This is no longer the case with Davis Vision. Anti-reflective coatings do not have a 2 year scratch warranty. A scratch protection plan must be purchased (an additional $20 and $40 fee), which only covers 1x remake/1 year.
- With VSP, we experienced a high level of customer satisfaction and quality with Hoya Vision and Carl Zeiss lens products. These are no longer options with Davis Vision. We order the best match possible, but some of our patients have noticed the difference.
- If you have medically necessary contact lenses, the process takes 2-3 months to complete! With VSP, we received authorization within seconds. Please plan for this when it’s time to order contact lenses.
- VSP allowed a 180 day prescription and lens change. Davis requires that changes be made within 30, 60, and 90 days, depending on the change. Please come in right away for any problems, and do not wait!
